history of deens
Born in Kashmir, Deens traces its origins to a land of breathtaking valleys, lush meadows, and serene lakes. Nestled deep within the Himalayas, this region has long been revered for its ethereal beauty. Against this majestic canvas, our forefathers began trading hand-knotted carpets woven from the finest wool and silk.
Established in 1935, the business evolved from a renowned purveyor to the British aristocracy and prominent families in India into a global exporter, gracing homes across Europe and the United States. This evolution was shaped by Badr Deen Banday, a visionary dedicated to creating exceptional carpets for the world stage. Following the partition of India in 1947, he relocated to Pakistan, where he founded the Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association and served as its inaugural president, pioneering and shaping the country’s emerging luxury carpet industry. Alongside his three sons, he built a legacy of integrity and prestige, establishing the Deens name as a mark of distinction worldwide.
Our pieces reflect an enduring commitment to excellence. From the initial design to the final knot, each creation is brought to life by skilled artisans and master weavers. We partner with select ateliers that share our uncompromising standards for quality. Equity, fair wages, ethical practices, creative expression, and the empowerment of artisans—particularly women—remain central to our ethos. Our carpets are made without forced or child labor and with respect for animal welfare and the environment. By embracing natural fibers, recycled materials, and plant-based dyes, we preserve centuries-old weaving traditions while supporting a more sustainable future.

Path forward
Building on his family’s legacy, Sal Banday, Badr’s grandson, opened a studio at the Boston Design Center to create a more personal, relationship-driven experience where every interaction matters. After moving to the United States in 1994 for higher education, he earned business degrees from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Harvard. He later held senior management roles in corporate America and studied digital transformation at MIT.
With a passion for art and innovation, Sal returned to the family business to lead its next chapter, reimagining the brand, expanding its presence, and serving clients nationwide.
We believe great interior design begins from the ground up. The floor establishes a room’s character, purpose, and atmosphere. Our collection is thoughtfully curated to complement these elements, bringing balance, beauty, and a sense of well-being.
